Sebastian,

Latest libtiff has a function to read the custom IFD. Moreover, there is
a special function for EXIF directory, so you can read the TIFF EXIF
directory without a problem. The only drowback is the lack of
documentation and samples... Sorry, I am still not have a time to write
the good one.

We have a code to read the custom IFDs, but the code to write custom
directories still not ready. I want to implement this functionality in
the next libtiff release. The next release will be major upgread
featuring the new completely rewriten Old JPEG module (thanks to
amazing work done by Joris!) and ne JBIG module (thanks to Lee Howard!).
Sorry folks, but no timeline for the next release. Please, try the CVS
tree, we can't proceed without your support and bug reports.

Regards,
Andrey
