Hi all,
Curiousity got the better of me, and I took a look at the tech note.
Unfortunately, in the Photoshop generated TIFF files (with a clipping path) I have, the clipping path data is stored in tag with number 0x8649 (34377), and not tag number 0x157 (343), and I don't see the byte order indicators (II or MM) in the that PhotoShop data.
Perhaps there is a tag number 0x157, but neither tiffinfo nor the Macintosh TIFF dumpers I have report this tag being present.
