Thanks for the speedy response. I can work around the lack of support for differing sample sizes, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something before proceeding.
I am not sure why this decision was made (I would not have made it) but TIFF files with uneven sample sizes are exceedingly rare since hardly any software is able to read such files.
