is there a simple tutorial for writing tiled TIFFs? i've looked at the sample apps, but i'm not quite sure what all is going on in there. you C guys sure do hate whitespace and passing parameters where a global variable will suffice!
Rather than assuming whatz correct and whatz not, you must try to understand that there can be more than one correct way of achieving the same results. Just because you are not accustomed/familiar with a style is a perfectly wrong reason to disregard something which works perfectly (or atleast good enough)
I myself 'prefer' OO and find it a more elgent way of doing things. But that doesnt makes every other way the wrong way. Better way of using something would be to try to think "Why is it done this way" rather than pondering over "How would I have done it"
Anyway, those are my 2 cents on it, I am just having a slow day at work ;-)
I think you will like this book: Code Reading: The Open Source Perspective by Diomidis Spinellis. Therez not much in there for a vetran but I did liked some parts.

btw, Almost all of libtiff code is well indented and uses enough whitespace. And I really didnt noticed many global variables. Just because its C, doesnt means that its badly coded.
