For anyone interested and for the sake of the archive...
Marti and I were able to conclude that there are defenetly two different encodings of 16bit/channel lab, both being photometric=8. There is no possible way of determining which is which from code.
I do not know what application brewed this single test image. Marti's interpretation of 16bit/channel lab is defenetly the prefered one, since that encoding seems most frequent.
